Air Permeability / Porosity Meter "GURLEY" 4190N + 4320 model

To quickly and accurately determine the Smoothness, Air Porosity and Softness (or Compressibility) in paper and cardboard using the GURLEY method. This is the most popular and traditional model for the measurement of porosity / air permeability in medium value materials. Materials with lower air permeability can also be tested using optional plates with a smaller orifice diameter.

According to standards: TAPPI T460 - ASTM D 726 - APPITA / AS 1301-420 - BS 5926 - CPPA D.14 - ISO 5636/5 - NF Q 03-078 - SCAN P-19 y P-53

This is the most popular and traditional model for the measurement of porosity / air permeability in medium value materials. Materials with lower air permeability can also be tested using optional plates with a smaller orifice diameter.

The Smoothness and Porosity Meter model S.P.S. 4190+4320 includes a 20-ounce cylinder, as well as a 1.0-square-inch air-hole bottom pinch plate and top adapter. This model is equipped with the 4320 Digital Module, it allows to control with great accuracy the time in seconds of the air passage through the sample and also to be able to connect the Smoothness and Porosity Meter to the LYNX System (Comprehensive Computerized Laboratory Management)

Porosity / Permeability Meters "GURLEY" (Standard and Low Pressure)

  • Densometers are the accepted standard for measuring the porosity of materials such as papers, wovens, plastics and membranes.
  • All Densometers measure the time required for a given volume and of air (25cc to 400cc) to flow through a standard area of material being tested under light uniform pressure.

For measuring the porosity, air-permeability or air-resistance of materials having low permeability. Typical materials include coated papers, plastics and membranes. High Pressure units are recommended whenever a standard unit would yield excessive easurement times.

Automatic Smoothness and Porosity Meter "GURLEY"

To measure accurately the Smoothness & Air Permeability (or Porosity) of paper and paperboard samples.

According to Standards :ISO 5636/5 - TAPPI T-460 - TAPPI T536 - ASTM D-726 - ASTM D-202 - APPITA/AS 1301-420 - BS 5926 - CPPA D-14 - SCAN P-19 - SCAN P-53.

The Model 4340 differs from the traditional manual densometers in several ways.
1/ The Model 4340 utilizes the latest mass flow and servo-regulator technology to provide a quick, accurate test that is oil-free.
2/ Second, pneumatic cylinders insure both a consistent clamping pressure as well as an automatic test feature; which allows the user to test a sample several times without constantly opening and closing the test area by hand.
3/ With the addition of an auto-drive mechanism, the user can program the number tests as well as the span they are tested over. Therefore, a sheet or strip of paper can be analyzed automatically, with output in either Gurley seconds, Sheffield, Bendsten or Bekk equivalent seconds.
